Telephone numbers appear in various formats and completeness levels: with or without country code, with national leading zeros, with delimiters of every kind. Context is often needed to fill the gaps.
The Telephone Matcher leverages the Telephone Parser to break a number into country, area and base parts. Once parsed, the system can compute similarity even when there are format differences — far beyond simple exact comparison.
The matcher is part of Search Cluster and works alongside Name, Address and Email matchers.
Same number, many faces
National vs. international
"044 350 60 75" vs. "+41 44 350 60 75" reduce to the same E.164 number.
Trunk prefixes
Leading 0 in some countries, leading 1 in NANP, dropped on international form.
Delimiters
Spaces, dashes, dots, parentheses — all stripped before semantic comparison.
Extensions
Differentiate same line with different extensions vs. completely different numbers.
Mobile vs. fixed
Same person, two devices — flagged as related rather than equal.
Carrier & geography
Carrier and area-code lookup adds context for matching and risk decisions.
